Floods caused by the remnants from Typhoon Haikui have forced thousands to flee in China’s southeast coastal Fujian Province.
More than 30,000 people have been evacuated to safer areas. Fuzhou Fire Department posted on its social media that two firefighters were killed and one officer was missing when floodwaters swept away the fire engine used to rescue people.
Haikui, a powerful typhoon that swept through Taiwan earlier this week, left thousands without electricity and injured dozens. When it hit Fujian as a tropical depression, the storm weakened but still brought record rainfall.

The authorities closed schools and suspended flights. They also stopped trains, buses and other public transport. Dozens of rescue vehicles were dispatched. Chinese state-run media estimate that the economic losses totaled over US$75 million (A$118 million).

State media said that 50,000 people were affected in the province centre of Fuzhou. Of these, more than 36,000 had been relocated to shelters.
Six cities across Fujian were flagged for being vulnerable to flash floods or landslides.
Rain is expected in the central and south parts of province where Haikui made landfall early Tuesday.
