The Marielle Franco Popular High School in Villa Lugano, together with its neighbors and other social groups will perform a symbolic hug this Saturday. This will also include the restoration and music of vandalized murals.

The Marielle Franco Popular High School, located at 2308 Guardia Nacional Street in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of Villa Lugano began taking shape in 2018. Classes began the next year.
Gordillo said, “We adopt the name Marielle Franco, (a murdered Brazilian feminist, politician, and human rights advocate), in our gender-perspective, to honor her legacy, within the context of education for social change.”
A journalist and history professor recalled, “popular high school has become an alternative to dozens of students who are unable to finish secondary education in the conventional system and they find a way in these spaces because of the work schedules of concept of popular education where knowledge construction is done together with the student.
He continued: “That’s to say, we take the existing knowledge of the students and build on it based upon dialogue. We also encourage them to reflect and to not memorize or to repeat concepts they don’t understand or aren’t conclusive. “We not only build content for secondary schools but we build meaning.”
On Saturday, the activities will start at 12, with the restoration and repair of vandalized murals. Live music will be played and there will also an open mic.
