A fire that broke out at a Chelsea restaurant on Wednesday forced two families to leave their homes. One firefighter had been taken to hospital.
Firefighters from Chelsea, and the surrounding areas responded in force to the fire at Los Amigos restaurant.
Around 9 am, firemen arrived to find heavy smoke and flames billowing from the two stories of the Broadway structure. They were also seen on the roof banging down and gaining entry via the rear of the burned-out building.
The fire had been put out by authorities in less than an hour. Officials said that although the water damage to neighboring structures was not limited to just the damaged structure, it could have affected other buildings.
A Revere Firefighter has been taken to hospital with what is considered a serious head injury, according to an updated released later on Wednesday afternoon.
Leonard Albanese, Chelsea’s Fire Chief said: “We are in a block of commercial buildings.” These are hard firefights.
They were able keep the original structure. Albanese added, “Really strong work from the members.”
Crews worked through the night on Wednesday in an attempt to bring two displaced families back home.
Steve Staffier, the director of Chelsea Emergency Management said that crews are working on restoring power after the fire. He said that the cleanup is a second concern.
Workers at businesses in the area, like the Calaveras Tattoo Studio were grateful that they did not suffer any damage.
Although crews were able to contain the fire, a local store owner stated that the timing of the fire and the necessity to shut down the shop the day before the major holiday was a big blow.

As of Wednesday night, the investigation of this fire was still ongoing.
