The south of England has been warned of the possibility of storm Ciaran arriving on Thursday. Amber warnings have now been issued for winds up to 80mph.
Met Office warned that there may be disruptions to travel, as well as damage to buildings. Flying debris can also endanger life.
Forecasters have issued a wider yellow warning for rain and winds between Wednesday and Saturday.

On the exposed south coast of England, gusts up to 80mph may be possible. In southern and western parts of Britain, 20-25mm rain is expected.

The amber alert for very strong wind in the south-west of England will be valid between 0300 GMT and 1330 GMT, on Thursday.
A second amber alert has been sent for the South East, from Thursday 06:00 until Tuesday 20:00.
From Thursday at 21:00 until Friday there is a warning for strong winds in a vast part of Southern England. There’s also a warning for rain from Thursday 18:00 until Friday.
A yellow rain warning has also been issued in the north-east of England, Yorkshire and Humber from Thursday morning at 06:00.
Jersey residents have been warned to be vigilant, and to prepare themselves for “severe” conditions such as high winds up to 90mph or heavy rainfall.
