This is the third vandalism case this year.
One of the trains owned by a Bodmin-based heritage railway conservation society, a tourist attraction and renowned for its rail heritage has been vandalized.
Bodmin and Wenford Railway is a group of mostly volunteers that preserves and operates a variety of historical steam and diesel engines once used on British Railways. They also operate services from their Bodmin General hub between Bodmin Parkway and Boscarne junction.
After 57 years on the mainline, the single-car diesel locomotive was retired in 2017. It had been recently restored to full working order.
The railway said that this was its third vandalism incident in the past year. It had already repaired graffiti at Boscarne Station and vandalism on another carriage.
A spokesperson from Bodmin and Wenford Railway stated: “We’re disheartened, particularly after our Diesel Gala post recap, to announce that we’ve discovered a significant amount of graffiti in our Class 121 Bubble Car.’ This is the second time this summer that a bus has been vandalized. The first was at Boscarne Station earlier in the year.
The graffiti was reported to British Transport Police. We want to make it clear that we don’t accept vandalism or tolerating them. Please be alert and report any instances of anti-social behavior.
We are sorry that our Bubble Car was painted so beautifully. It will need to be touched-up after the graffiti has been removed. This will take valuable time from both staff and volunteers.
