Tori Spelling, an actress and mother of two children who suffered from “a spiraling sickness” due to mold issues in her home, is warning other parents about the dangers.
Spelling has five children, including her son Dean McDermott. She took to Instagram to request help in finding “mold lawyers” near their home, which is California.
Spelling wrote: “Our problems are on a whole new level, with the mold in our house and how it’s slowly killed us over 3 years.” My kids can’t seem to get better and we need help.
Spelling posted photos of at least four children with her at a clinic for urgent care earlier this month.
Spelling stated in the caption of her photos that she felt compelled to search for answers when she noticed how sickly and miserable her children were. She described it as “a continuous spiral of illness” lasting months.
It’s not uncommon for young children to bring home illnesses from school. Spelling said that they “constantly bring illnesses home”. When it becomes a problem that they spend more time at home than in class, we have to take a closer look.
Spelling noted that her five children range in age from 6 to around 16. The five children in her family range from age 6 to 16.
Spelling claimed that a mold inspection firm found “extreme” mold in her family’s house, which they were renting.
She wrote: “It is hard to uproot such a large family, especially when everyone feels so ill and is in bed.” But, now we will leave the house as soon as possible.”
Mold can have a variety of health effects, ranging from skin irritations and eye burning to coughing and sore throats.
According to the CDC mold can be more harmful for those who suffer from asthma, mold allergies and chronic lung diseases.
Mold can be found in homes through a variety of sources, including heating and cooling systems, open windows and doors, vents, and clothing, shoes, and animals.
The CDC says that when looking for mold at home, it can appear as spots of different colours. Mold also emits a musty odor.
A mold problem can also be concealed. In this case, a specialist would have to locate the source.
According to the CDC you should remove any mold growing inside your home immediately by washing with soap and water or using a product that will eliminate the mold.
Environmental Protection Agency offers a guide online that includes tips on how to stop mold growth.
According to the Agency, the most important tip for controlling moisture in the home is to use a humidifier.
The EPA suggests cleaning up indoor leaks, repairing gutters on the roof and maintaining a clear air conditioner system to prevent moisture accumulation.
The agency also recommends keeping indoor relative humidity at or below 60%. This can be done with a humidity meter.
According to the EPA, some tips for reducing home humidity include running an exhaust fan or opening windows while showering, washing dishes and cooking.
