According to Bluffton Township fire district, several residents in Pritchardville were forced out of their homes after two housefires occurred over the weekend.
First fire started Saturday on Stoney Hill Loop, off Palmetto Bluff Rd. A neighbor noticed smoke and flames coming out of the home while the homeowner was working. Firefighters responded quickly after the neighbor dialed 911. The firefighters arrived to find the house fully in flames with a partially collapsed roof.
It was difficult to extinguish the fire because of its location, which is surrounded by dense brush and trees. However, it did eventually go out. It was not possible to determine the cause of this fire.
Lightning struck a house on Pine View Dr., in May River Preserve’s subdivision. The fire started. Homeowner called 911 and said he smelled smoke in an upstairs room.
Fire crews were able to safely remove all occupants from the house before they arrived. The firefighter was able to save this home but it caused structural damage in the attic and roof.
Both homes suffered significant damages. The first was a complete loss. In neither incident were there any injuries reported, however the homeowners of the two homes have been forced to move.
Residents are reminded by the Fire District to check smoke alarms every month, and replace batteries once per year. Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, on each level, and outside of every sleeping area. Smoke alarms, whenever possible, should be connected so that when one alarm sounds, they all sound.
